Our friend, talented artist Chris Hoehle, recently started displaying his handmade bowls, hollow forms, ladles and spatulas in our store. Below are just a few of his one-of-a-kind, customizable finished products that can be purchased on his Etsy site and in our store. They make useful, unique gifts!
All kitchen pieces are coated in non-toxic Salad Bowl Finish, and non-toxic old fashioned milk paint is layered on the handles.
Curious about the process, I visited Chris’s workshop where I saw the lathe, the gorgeous work bench with wood inlay he made for himself and his many wood working tools in person.
It all starts with these beautiful pieces of raw dried wood.
The beginnings of a ladle and putting it on the lathe.
Here are some of the chisels and gouges that Chris applies to the spinning workpiece to hollow out the center of the ladle scoop and carve out other details.
A spatula blank has been roughed out on the bandsaw and is ready to be mounted on the lathe to shape the handle and outline of the spatula.
Adding beading in the handle.
Chris and visitors at First Friday.
